    According to Comox Valley Record, May 22, 2026 , "There was a 23 per cent increase in violent crime in Courtenay during the fourth quarter of the Comox Valley RCMP’s 2025-2026 fiscal year compared to the previous year, says Inspector Scott Mercer.

    The Comox Valley detachment’s leader delivered his quarterly report to the Courtenay Council on May 13 during a regular council meeting.

    According to Mercer, the top three violent offences were assaults, harassment and threats. The highest amount of assaults were at the Comox Valley Hospital, followed by the Connect Warming Centre."
